Memorial Day Adventure

Well, our Memorial Day was not what we expected it would be. Zach was not acting like himself over the weekend and we finally took his temperature Sunday evening. He had a slight fever and when we called the pediatrician they said to take him to the ER since he is so young. By the time we got there his temp was up to 102! That's when the craziness started. He immediately has a series of tests done...blood work, urine sample, chest x-ray, and even a spinal tap! We were transferred to Children's Hospital downtown where we stayed for the next 2 days. All of the tests came back negative for bacterial infections, which is great. Zach still had the fever and irritability for a couple days. They ran more tests for viral infections and narrowed it down to viral meningitis. Since it's a virus we just have to let it run it's course. We came home from the hospital yesterday (Tues.) evening. Luckily, he has been free of a fever all day today and acting more like himself. It was definitely a scary few days, but we are blessed that it was nothing more serious and he is now on the road to recovery! I think Steve and I both have begun to grow gray hairs...I thought that didn't start until they are teenagers!!! I guess nobody said it would be easy ;)

Not Too Interested In Playtime

I guess I still have to get used to how much babies sleep. I was determined that we were going to play, but Zach wasn't really up for it. This is usually what happens. At least you can get a look at how big he is getting with the full body pic.

A Determined Thumb-Sucker

Zach's already found his thumb...our boy is so smart! He's gotten it in a couple of times now, but tries for it every chance he gets. We aren't too thrilled about having a thumb-sucker though, so this was our cue to start the pacifier. It's much easier to throw away in a year than his thumb! So far he's been taking it well.

Happy One Week Birthday!!!

Zach has had a wonderful first week in the world! He continues to sleep well at night, only waking up once or twice per night. Steve and I are enjoying that while it lasts! He got a few baths and had a few visitors. He also took his first trip to the doctor and came home with a great report. He is a healthy boy. His only job is to keep gaining weight. Enjoy the pictures from Zachary's first week!
